Heaven right here by lutishia lovely5/28/2023 ![]() This is something that is not highlighted enough, and we have pulled together those in the field, giving them an opportunity to share their work and experiences." Under lock and skeleton key5/28/2023 ![]() ![]() That’s where I began work on UNDER LOCK & SKELETON KEY. I rented a large flat in Edinburgh, Scotland, for my writers group to join me on a writing retreat. It was my 40th birthday, and a couple of years beforehand I’d survived a full year of cancer treatments and promised myself that if I made it through, I’d take my writers group on a spectacular writing retreat to celebrate my 40th. ![]() ![]() ![]() What was the biggest challenge this book presented? What about the biggest opportunity? I started writing this book six years ago. The characters are fun to spend time with, including plenty of humorous banter, plus the clues are fairly presented yet ingeniously hidden, so it’s enjoyable to try to work out the solution and slap your forehead at the end when you realize the truth. Traditional puzzle plot mysteries are so much fun when done well, because they work on multiple levels. I’ve always loved mysteries from the Golden Age of detective fiction, and this book was my opportunity to pay homage to those puzzle plot novels I adore but bring that style into the 21st century with a multicultural cast based on my own family. UNDER LOCK & SKELETON KEY is a locked-room mystery in the traditional sense, presenting a seemingly impossible crime with “fair play” clues. ![]()

Last chance by jill marie landis5/28/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() There are only 4 years of difference between their ages.ĭuring his absence, Rachel married an older man, Sheriff McKenna. He seems much more assured than his teacher at this point. Ten years have passed since he was a student in her school and Lane has become his own person. He doesn’t explain why he’s back but the sparks immediately fly between Lane and Rachel.Īnother reviewer didn’t like that a teacher would take up with her former student I look at it differently. Lane has followed in his uncle’s footsteps by becoming a famous gunslinger. One of the early people he sees is his former teacher, Rachel McKenna. This is the story of the troubled nephew, Lane Cassidy, who left town 10 years in anger and has just returned. Since I read this one first, there were some gaps in my understanding of some of the finer points of this engaging book. ![]() The Cassidy Family novels should be read in order it’s easy to say this with some authority. ![]()

![]() ![]() Ingersoll Quotes that Will Make You Think ![]() Suffering is not a punishment – it is a result. Happiness is not a reward – it is a consequence. A great man is a torch in the darkness, a beacon in superstition’s night, an inspiration and a prophecy. Give to every human being every right that you claim for yourself. Superstition is, always has been, and forever will be, the foe of progress, the enemy of education and the assassin of freedom. Most people can bear adversity but if you wish to know what a man really is give him power. The way to be happy is to make others so. There will never be a generation of great men until there has been a generation of free women – of free mothers. The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart. Ingersoll A great man does not seek applause or place he seeks for truth he seeks the road to happiness, and what he ascertains, he gives to others. That is the time all religions tell the truth – each of the other.” Robert G. ![]() “Do you not know that every religion in the world has declared every other religion a fraud? Yes, we all know it. The case for rational compassion5/28/2023 ![]() Besides this, many studies are put into question by counter studies set on proving the first wrong. At a certain point, a study is given to explain how the place where questionnaires and studies are carried has impact on the results: “People are more likely to vote for sales taxes that will fund education when the polling place is in a school” (160). ![]() For instance, questionnaires provide several types of scales, but we are informed these types of scales are easily misleading as subjects can lie or be influenced by several types of conditions (nonetheless, the Baron-Cohen scale of empathy, classified as problematic, is used several times). It is not without some surprise, then, that the research used throughout the book is treated accordingly to the needs of the argument, considered at times sound proof for a belief while many times being rebuffed as inaccurate. ![]() ![]() Paul Bloom’s Against Empathy belongs to a recent trend of making the case for bold and counter-intuitive claims, usually through a huge amount of scientific and academic apparatus. ![]()
